Teleworking D visa

You must show that your work does not depend on location and is done through telecommunications, and that you keep working for an employer registered abroad, your own foreign company or clients mostly based outside Estonia. You also need documents of your legal income for the six months before applying, showing amount, regularity and source.

Means, insurance and fee

The Foreign Ministry sets means of €132 per day for teleworking, i.e. €3,960 per month. Besides passport, form and photo, travel medical insurance and fingerprints are required. The fee is €120 (€60 for children aged 6 to 11) and you apply in person at an Estonian representation in your country of residence or at the Police and Border Guard inside Estonia.

Duration and Schengen travel

The D visa is issued for a stay of up to 365 days within twelve consecutive months and allows up to 90 days in any 180 in other Schengen states. With two consecutive visas, the total stay cannot exceed 548 days in 730. Staying longer requires another route, such as a residence permit.

Taxes and tax residence

For the tax authority you are resident if your place of residence is in Estonia or you stay at least 183 days within twelve consecutive months, counting arrival and departure days. Once you reach 183 days you are treated as resident from your first arrival date, and the change is notified with Form R.
